Envisioning the expansion of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice of India Dr Justice DY Chandrachud told CNN-News18 on Thursday that the new building “would be a symbol of emerging India".
“We want to create facilities within the new building while we are creating a futuristic building which would be there for 75 or 100 years. The building, which will be completely technology-enabled and technology-friendly, so as to make life easier for citizens…We are using Artificial intelligence to provide access to citizens…so this building in that sense is going to be a symbol of an emerging India and emerging court system in India in terms of providing proper access to different segments who typically have been denied access," said CJI Chandrachud.

In the exclusive interview with CNN-News18, the Chief Justice of India emphasised that while designing the new building for which construction is to commence, the main aim would be to provide stakeholder access.
“The most important stakeholder in the legal profession is the litigant who comes to court with the grievances and people come from near and far to the Supreme Court," he said.
The CJI also underscored that while designing the new building, a great deal of importance has been given to facilities for litigants as well as women and senior citizens in particular.
He also stated that the measures being taken aren’t one-time, shouldn’t be something peculiar to one Chief Justice, and shall continue to stay even after he demits the office.
“We must become an institutionalised practice so that then it becomes part of the system and then your successors, the other people in your staff will follow over years, they will build on what is being done," Justice Chandrachud said.
