Security personnel in several districts of Uttar Pradesh are on alert after jailed gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari died of cardiac arrest at a hospital in Banda on Thursday.
Prohibitory orders under section 144 of the CrPC have been imposed across the state and teams of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) along with the local police have been deployed in Banda, Mau, Ghazipur and Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police Prashant Kumar said.
Ghazipur SP Omvir Singh told ANI, “Since this news flashed last night, the entire district administration is on alert. We are in touch with the family and they have said that the last rites will be done after morning prayers. A crowd is expected as people will come to pay tribute and the arrangements are made for the same. But, I appeal to the people that the Model Code of Conduct is in effect for general elections and if it is violated by any means or statements made by anyone, action will be taken as per law.”
According to reports, Mukhtar Ansari’s jailed son, Abbas Ansari, has approached the Supreme Court seeking parole to attend his father’s last rites.
His elder brother Sibgatullah Ansari said, “We received the body after some delay so the last rites cannot be performed tonight. It will be done tomorrow morning in Ghazipur. I request everybody to pray for him.”

Meanwhile, autopsy reports have revealed that the gangster-politician’s death was caused due to cardiac arrest, reported TOI and HT.
Currently, a viral phone call conversation between Mukhtar Ansari and his kin is going around on social media. Meanwhile, the deceased don’s son Omar Ansari has also written a letter to the District Magistrate of Banda demanding that the postmortem of his father should be done by the doctors of AIIMS, Delhi.
A large force of police personnel was also deployed outside Banda Medical College Hospital, where Mukhtar died. Meanwhile, a crowd of Ghazipur residents thronged outside the gangster-politician‘s home as cops kept a close vigil.
A magisterial investigation will be carried out by a three-member team and a panel of two doctors will conduct the post-mortem on the gangster’s death.
