The Hyderabad police arrested four individuals for allegedly abusing and assaulting an interfaith couple near Makkah Masjid. The video of the purported assault has since gone viral on social media.
The incident came to light following the circulation of an undated video clip on various social platforms, wherein certain individuals are heard instructing the man not to be seen with the woman due to his supposed religious affiliation, questioning the veracity of his identity.
In the viral footage, the man, holding an infant, is accompanied by the woman near the Makkah Masjid. Allegedly, a member of the group verbally assaults and attacks the man, despite his assertion that the woman is his wife and the child is their daughter. The group further demands to see the man’s Aadhaar card.
According to India Today, the four suspects identified as Shaik Ayan, Syed Firdous, Mohd. Shabaz, and Mohd Farhan Ahmed were detained on Friday, and their mobile phones containing the viral video clip were confiscated.
Police initiated action based on the video evidence, registering a case on March 26 at Charminar Police Station under sections 295-A of the IPC, pertaining to actions intended to outrage religious sentiments, 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and relevant sections of the Juvenile Justice Act.
