The list also mentions that Shashi Tharoor will contest the polls from Thiruvananthapuram, whereas KC Venugopal will fight from Alappuzha.

With the presence of Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad and the candidature of AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K C Venugopal as well as all the sitting MPs, except T N Prathapan in Thrissur, the Congress-led UDF in Kerala is hopeful of replicating its 2019 victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. “We will win 20 out of 20 seats in Kerala,” Venugopal announced in New Delhi, soon after the party declared its candidates for the 16 constituencies in which Congress is contesting in the election.
The Election Commission on Friday held meetings with top Home Ministry and Railway officials on the deployment and movement of security personnel across the country ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, sources said.

Underlining the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) independent stance in Odisha, State party President Manmohan Samal has said that there will be no alliance between BJP and Biju Janata Dal (BJD), adding that the party will contest all seats in the state.
“We will form the government in Odisha and we will win more than 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections and form the government at the center, it was discussed in the meeting in Delhi,” Samal told reporters on Friday evening.

Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said, “Our priority is to win the maximum Lok Sabha seats to defeat PM Modi in this next elections. Our target is to win the maximum number of parliament seats for the Congress party.”
As Congress leader Shashi Tharoor is set to contest from Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency, he said, “I am honoured and humbled that the Congress party has give me an opportunity to defend my seat…I look forward to a fair and effective contest. in 15 years of politics, I never needed to spend one day of negative campaigning.”
In the first list of candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Congress CEC has selected 39 names:
. • 15 candidates are from the General category
• 24 candidates are from SC, ST, OBC and minority groups
• 12 candidates are below 50 years of age
• 8 candidates are in the age group 50–60
• 12 are in the age group 61-70
• 7 candidates are in the age group 71-76.

The BJP has shortlisted three candidates for Bengaluru Rural Lok Sabha constituency for the upcoming polls, Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly R Ashoka said on Friday.
“We have a strong candidate to contest from Bengaluru Rural. We have recommended three candidates. One among them will contest (on a BJP ticket),” the former Deputy Chief Minister told reporters.
A day after the Union cabinet approved the bill to facilitate reservation to scheduled tribes (ST) in the Goa Assembly, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that four assembly constituencies would be reserved under this category.
Sawant said that the four constituencies would be reserved for STs during the 2027 Assembly polls.
The Rashtriya Janata Dal on Friday decided to back Rabri Devi, former Bihar chief minister and wife of the party’s founding president Lalu Prasad, for yet another term in the legislative council. According to a statement issued by the party, it will field four candidates, including Rabri Devi, besides supporting Shashi Yadav of CPI(ML) Liberation in the biennial polls due later this month.
The other RJD candidates are veteran leader Abdul Bari Siddiqui, national general secretary Syed Faisal Ali and former head of the women’s wing, Urmila Thakur. All the candidates are likely to file their nomination papers on Monday, a party official said.
Senior Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader and Rajya Sabha MP K Ravindra Kumar claimed on Friday that the BJP, the Jana Sena and his party have decided in principle to work together for upcoming polls and the modalities are being worked out.
A day after TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu held deliberations with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief J P Nadda, Kumar told PTI that preliminary discussions have taken place for the “purpose of alliance” for the Lok Sabha and state Assembly polls, which are held simultaneously in Andhra Pradesh.
