Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Trinamool Congress on Sunday announced its list of 42 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. In a surprise move, the party fielded former cricketer Yusuf Pathan from Berhampore and brought in 26 new faces to contest in the polls.

After the surprise resignation of Arun Goel as the Election Commissioner (EC), News18 sources said on Sunday that two election commissioners are likely to be appointed on March 15.

Solidifying their alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Saturday finalised a seat-sharing agreement with the Congress. Sources told News18 that the DMK has allocated 9 seats in Tamil Nadu and 1 seat in Puducherry to the Congress.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Jana Sena Party sealed the deal on their alliance after a second round of talks with their respective senior leaders. However, a join statement from the three parties noted that, “…The modalities of seat-sharing will be deliberated within a day or two.”

“It doesn’t matter whether it’s INDIA bloc or any other party, citizens of this country have made up their minds to make (Narendra) Modi the PM for the third time with a huge majority. We will secure victory in over 400 seats. Lotus will bloom in Uttar Pradesh by securing victory in all 80 seats,” said BJP leader Jaiveer Singh earlier on Sunday.
Former JMM MLA Sarfaraz Ahmad will be the INDIA bloc candidate for the Rajya Sabha polls in the state, party spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said here on Sunday. Two election commissioners are likely to be appointed by March 15 to fill the vacancies created by the retirement of Anup Chandra Pandey and the surprise resignation of Arun Goel, sources said on Sunday. Days before the poll panel is expected to announce the schedule for the Lok Sabha polls, Goel resigned on Friday morning. His resignation was accepted by President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday and the Law Ministry issued a notification to announce it.
After TMC declared the list of candidates from all Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, party leader and former Meghalaya CM Mukul Sangma said, “We have waited long enough; there was a collective intent to have a single candidate from the INDIA Bloc to aggregate our strengths and put it out collectively, but that didn’t happen. Now if Congress today says that TMC didn’t wait and went ahead announcing candidates for all the 42 seats from West Bengal, they should be reminded of their delink from the ground reality.”
