In a courageous act, a woman skilled in martial arts and her young daughter foiled a robbery attempt by two armed men pretending to be delivery workers at their home in Hyderabad’s Begumpet, police revealed on Friday.
The two suspects, hailing from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, had schemed to rob the house after scouting it out beforehand, according to police sources.

Their plan unfolded around 1pm the previous day, when they posed as delivery agents and entered the house. Although the homeowner, Amita Mahnot, was present, a servant went to collect the package. The two men, one wearing a helmet and the other a face mask to conceal their identities, forcibly entered the house with the intent to rob, as reported by the police.
One of the suspects went into the kitchen and threatened a maid with a knife, while Amita’s teenage daughter bravely confronted the other intruder, leading to a scuffle between them. Amita, 46, joined her daughter in resisting the robbery attempt. During the altercation, one of the suspects produced a homemade pistol and attempted to intimidate both mother and daughter. However, leveraging her martial arts skills, Amita disarmed him and chased him away after delivering blows.
The commotion alerted neighbours who rushed to assist. They managed to apprehend one of the suspects, while the other was later caught by the police.
The bravery of the mother-daughter duo was praised by the police, with DCP (North Zone) Rohini Priyadarshini commending their remarkable courage.
“It is pertinent to state that the bravery shown by both mother Amita and her daughter is exemplary…,” the release by DCP (North Zone) Rohini Priyadarshini said.
