Lok Sabha Election 2024: The BJP on Sunday released its fifth list of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections. The list included actor Kangana Ranaut who got the ticket from Mandi, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan from Odisha’s Sambalpur and Ramayan fame Arun Govil from Meerut.
Congress Lok Sabha candidate Ajay Rai, who is facing Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Varanasi for a third time, expressed confidence in his victory while visiting the constituency on Sunday.
“…I am from Kashi and I am well aware of every street, house and person in Kashi. The time will tell whether BJP will win or lose from the margin of 10 lakh..” he said.
On Sunday, former Indian Air Force chief RKS Bhadauria joined the BJP. The party general secretary Vinod Tawde lauded Bhadauria’s long service in the Indian Air Force (IAF) and expressed confidence that he will now contribute actively in the political field after playing an active role in the defence forces.
On being dropped from Jaipur constituency, Congress leader Sunil Sharma said, “I never came into Congress for any position… The party wanted me to contest the elections. All party leaders told me that I had to fight the elections. I did not ask for the ticket. I also said that I am not interested in contesting the elections… But I accepted the ticket because I was told that if I did not contest the elections, then that would mean that I did not love Rahul Gandhi… I someone raises a question on my integrity, then it is painful for me…”
The BJP released its fifth list of 111 candidates for the Lok Sabha elections late on Sunday, which had a number of high-profile names and at least five of the nominees are new entrants to the BJP.
Among the switchover leaders rewarded with a BJP ticket are former Congress MP Naveen Jindal from Kurukshetra; and Sita Soren, an estranged relative of Jharkhand’s jailed ex-CM Hemant Soren, from Dumka.

The BJP on Sunday declared seven more candidates from Rajasthan for the Lok Sabha elections.
The party has retained two sitting MPs — Sukhbir Singh Jaunapuria of Tonk-Sawai Madhopur and Bhagirath Chaudhary from Ajmer. Chaudhary was fielded in the assembly elections in December last year but he lost the polls.
Rao Rajendra Singh has been given ticket from Jaipur Rural and Shubhkaran Chaudhary from Jhunjhunu. Both are former MLAs.
At the same time, the BJP has given tickets to new faces Priyanka Balan (Ganganagar), Manju Sharma (Jaipur) and Mahima Vishweswar Singh (Rajsamand).
Union minister and two-time Rajya Sabha MP Dharmendra Pradhan will seek a return to the Lower House of Parliament with the BJP fielding him from Sambalpur in his home state Odisha for the Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP party has fielded Ramesh Awasthi from Kanpur Lok Sabha seat, after sitting MP Satyadev Pachauri on Sunday expressed his unwillingness to contest the elections and conveyed the same to the party’s national president J P Nadda.

NDA ally Chirag Paswan on Sunday said his Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will declare its candidates for the Lok Sabha polls “immediately after Holi”.
Paswan, whose party has got five of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, also asserted he was “ready for any challenge” that came from his estranged uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras.
The BJP on Sunday announced the names of its candidates for 18 of the 21 Lok Sabha seats in Odisha, while dropping four sitting MPs from the list. The party has fielded four women – Aparajita Sarangi (Bhubaneswar), Sangeeta Kumari Deo (Bolangir), Malvika Keshari Deo (Kalahandi) and Anita Subhadarshini (Aska).
The sitting MPs who were denied BJP tickets this time are Suresh Pujari (Bargarh), Union Minister Bisheswar Tudu (Mayrbhanj), Nitish Gang Deb (Sambalpur) and Basant Panda (Kalahandi). The party has nominated Pradeep Purohit in place of Pujari while Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan replaced Nitish Gang Deb in Sambalpur.
AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami on Sunday alleged that the ruling DMK is a family party and a corporate company with an aim to “loot” at the Centre by coming to power.
The Congress on Sunday replaced its candidate for the Jaipur Lok Sabha seat, fielding former Rajasthan minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas after a section of party leaders objected to Sunil Sharma’s nomination.
Sharma’s candidate sparked controversy over his alleged association with the ‘Jaipur Dialogue’, which is critical of the Congress on social media. Sharma, however, asserted that he has had no association with the organisation and has been invited by it occasionally to present the Congress’ view.
The Bharatiya Janata Party on Sunday named MLA Ram Satpute for the Solapur (Scheduled Caste) Lok Sabha seat and retained MP Sunil Mendhe from Bhandara-Gondiya.
The ruling party also announced the name of Ashok Nete from Gadchiroli-Chimur.
Satpute, the MLA from Malshiraj in Solapur, will take on the Congress’ Praniti Shinde, a three-time legislator and daughter of former Union minister Sushilkumar Shinde.
NDA constituent AMMK on Sunday named candidates for the two seats it will be contesting in the April 19 Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu. Party chief TTV Dhinakaran said in a release that he will contest from Theni, while P Senthilnathan has been nominated from Tiruchirappalli segment.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that the BJP has kept its assurance of giving at least one Lok Sabha seat with ‘winning chance’ to its alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) so that the regional party has representation in the lower House once again after 15 years.
The BJP has fielded one of the victims of Sandeshkhali from Basirhat in Bengal.
Sita Soren, three-term Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA and sister-in-law of former chief minister Hemant Soren has been fielded by the BJP from Dumka seat.
The BJP dropped Union ministers Ashwini Kumar Choubey and V K Singh from their respective Lok Sabha seats.
Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan will contest from Sambalpur and the party’s spokesperson Sambit Patra will try his luck from Puri once again after losing out in a close contest in 2019.
